Lawyer and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat gained attention this week for his refusal to succumb to family pressure and marry again solely to ensure the birth of a son.
Marwat’s stance garnered widespread praise on social media, including commendation from actor Sonya Hussyn.
Taking to her Instagram reel, Hussyn expressed admiration for Marwat’s adherence to principles of decency and relationship ethics in a society she described as harsh.
Marwat had disclosed in a podcast that his family had pressured him to take a second wife to fulfill the desire for a son.
However, he explained that he couldn’t subject his wife to the ordeal of another marriage.
Reflecting on Marwat’s decision, Hussyn criticized the societal expectation to prioritize male heirs, emphasizing the cruelty of marrying solely for this purpose.
She praised Marwat for prioritizing his wife’s well-being and predicted that his commitment to family values would benefit his daughters in the long run.
Hussyn concluded her message with a show of respect towards Marwat.
