SSGC catches Karachi bakery in gas theft

In a recent crackdown, the Theft Control Team of the Customer Relations Department (CRD) conducted a raid on a popular bakery in Karachi and apprehended it for gas theft. The team seized pipes and other equipment used by the bakery to siphon gas from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) system.

The SSGC authorities filed a case of gas theft against the bakery owner, Malik Muhammad Yaseen, and stated that the stolen gas would be accounted for based on the load. Additionally, a significant gas theft operation was exposed in Sukkur, involving the dismantling of 10 underground clamps and disconnection of domestic gas lines from 210 houses, resulting in an estimated theft of 201,600 cubic meters per year, according to an SSGC press release.

Similarly, in Hyderabad, gas theft was uncovered in the Mutaasreen Colony of Kohisar Area, Latifabad, where miscreants had installed clamps on 8″ and 2″ diameter Feeder Mains (FMs) to extend rubber pipes to over 30 houses in a non-gas supply zone. The clamps were removed, rubber pipes confiscated, and the FMs repaired and welded. The approximate gas theft volume by these unregistered customers in the area was calculated to be 28,800 cubic meters per year.

SSGC also cracked down on gas theft perpetrators in other cities of Sindh, including Larkana’s Jacobabad Zone and Shikarpur Zone, where a total of 13 overhead and 12 underground illegal connections were dismantled, and rubber pipes and clamps were removed in a swift operation, as reported by the company.
