Sugar prices surge by Rs4 per kg, reaching Rs150 per kg

The nation witnessed a notable increase in sugar prices, soaring by Rs4 per kg to reach Rs150 per kg.

Authorities reported that the ex-mill price of sugar stands at Rs142 per kg, with a wholesale market rate of Rs144 per kg. Simultaneously, the escalating cost of chicken has also become a concern for the common populace, with prices hitting Rs850 per kg in various cities, including Lahore and Faisalabad.

Despite efforts, the Punjab government appears to be grappling with the influence of tandoor cartels, as it has yet to enforce official pricing regulations.

Consequently, staple items like ‘Roti’ and ‘Naan’ are being retailed at Rs20 and Rs25 respectively, highlighting the challenges faced by consumers amidst these economic fluctuations.
