Supreme Court to conduct third hearing on judges’ letter case

The Supreme Court is set to convene today for the third time to address the suo motu case regarding the letter from Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges. The proposals put forth by the high court judges will be carefully examined during the session.

Chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, a six-member larger bench including Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Musarat Hilali, Justice Athar Minullah, Justice Jamal Mandukhel, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afnan will preside over the hearing. The court has summoned Attorney General of Pakistan, Mansoor Usman Awan, to provide responses or recommendations regarding the allegations.

Previously, the Supreme Court had suggested that any responses from intelligence agencies be routed through the Attorney General, and urged legal bodies to provide written feedback. Notably, during the previous hearing, IHC judges alongside Provincial High Courts had submitted suggestions, prompting the Supreme Court to order the publication of these recommendations.
