Syed Murad Ali Shah clinches third consecutive term as Sindh CM

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Syed Murad Ali Shah secured his position as the 25th Sindh Chief Minister for the third consecutive term on Monday, obtaining a majority of votes in the Sindh Assembly.

The voting session saw Mr. Shah amass 112 votes, while his opponent from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-Pakistan), Ali Khurshidi, secured only 36 votes. Having previously served two terms as Sindh’s chief minister from 2016 to 2018 and 2018 to 2023, Syed Murad Ali Shah has now secured his third consecutive term.

In his victory speech, he pledged to address the increasing street crime, particularly in Karachi, emphasizing the need to review operations in riverine areas.

Regarding reservations about the Feb 8 polls, Shah highlighted the PPP’s commitment to a legal course of action, maintaining the nation’s sovereignty. MQM-P MPA Abdul Waseem congratulated the new CM, expressing optimism about the assembly’s ability to address public concerns.

Other MPs, including Sardar Ali Shah and Iftikhar Alam, extended congratulations and expectations for balanced development in both rural and urban areas of Sindh. Sardar Mohammad Bakhsh Mehar urged special attention to the peace and security situation in Ghotki district.

Earlier in the session, Speaker Awais Qadir Shah administered the oath to newly-elected Sindh Assembly member Mir Nadir Magsi.
