Talks on election date underway, claims Elahi

Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi Saturday said that former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan would not hold talks with any committee of the government and added that talks on an election date were underway.

But he did not name with whom the talks are being held.

Speaking to a private television channel, the Punjab chief minister said he would try to calm down the situation if it gets tense.

He also thanked Imran Khan for entrusting him with managing the affairs of the Punjab government. “No one else other than me knows Sharifs,” he said and added former prime minister Nawaz Sharif started a feud with then army chief when he became the prime minister with a two-thirds majority. “He [Nawaz] also had a feud with Ali Qulli, Parvez Musharraf and General Qamar Javed Bajwa,” Elahi added.

Elahi went on to say that Imran Khan’s only demand is elections, adding that a ray of hope is being seen during the long march.

When asked why ISI DG held a press conference if the talks were being held, he replied that he won’t talk about it. “But we hope that the talks will make a breakthrough.”

“Imran Khan is my leader and I will do whatever he will ask me to,” Elahi said, adding that the PTI chairman will never tolerate these “thieves” – a term Imran uses to describe incumbent rulers.
