Ticketmaster halts tickets for Taylor’s Swift Eras tour in France

In a fresh setback for Taylor Swift fans, Ticketmaster has postponed ticket sales for six upcoming shows in France. The trouble began on Tuesday when fans encountered difficulties accessing Ticketmaster’s website. Although the cause of the issue remains unclear, Ticketmaster’s French Twitter account later attributed the problem to a third-party provider.

In a statement provided to the media, Ticketmaster assured fans that tickets for the France shows are still available. The company mentioned that the third-party provider is actively working to resolve the matter, although no specific timeframe for the rescheduled ticket sales has been announced.

This recent chaos follows a major breakdown during the sale of tickets for Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour in the United States last November. During a presale event, Ticketmaster’s website crashed, resulting in the loss of tickets for thousands of fans who had patiently waited in an online queue. The company attributed the incident to overwhelming traffic from fans and attacks from bots, which impersonated genuine consumers and hoarded tickets for resale on secondary platforms.

At the time, Taylor Swift expressed her frustration on Instagram, emphasizing the impact on her fans.

Several lawmakers accused Ticketmaster of abusing its dominant position as a ticket seller, prompting federal and state investigations into the matter.
Ticketmaster, the largest ticket seller globally since its merger with Live Nation in 2010, processes 500 million tickets annually in over 30 countries. According to data from a consumer lawsuit filed last year, around 70% of tickets for major concert venues in the United States are sold through Ticketmaster.

The recent postponement of ticket sales in France has reignited public outrage toward Ticketmaster.

Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour is currently wrapping up its 52-date run in the United States, with the final shows scheduled for early August in Los Angeles. Her international show is set to commence in Mexico City on August 24, 2023. She is scheduled to do France shows, consisting of four concerts in Paris in May 2024 and two shows in Lyon in June 2024.
