TikTok decides to launch app to rival Instagram

Beijing: Video-sharing application TikTok has decided to launch an app to compete with Instagram.

According to TikTok, the company is working on a dedicated app for images and text.

Some users have reported receiving notifications stating that their posts based on images will be shared on a new ‘TikTok Notes’ until they opt out.

This is the latest example of social media companies emulating each other’s features with Instagram having previously shared TikTok’s video feature in 2020 under the name ‘Instagram Reels.’

Mike Prolux, research director at an analytical company stated that the process of emulation is prevalent across all social media platforms but success is not always guaranteed.

TikTok has mentioned that the company has not yet determined the design or launch date of the Notes app.
