Transgender activists storm Gujrat police station over alleged abuse

Transgender individuals in Gujarat protested outside the Sadar Kharian police station, claiming they were mistreated and molested by the police.

The protest grew intense, leading to a road closure near the station.

Reports say the transgenders, angered by police behavior, stormed the station, causing damage and taking two officers hostage.

Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the protesters threw bricks, stones, and vandalized property. They even dragged furniture into the streets.

The transgender community claims they regularly face abuse and harassment from the police. They allege incidents of molestation, physical violence, and verbal abuse.

However, the police tell a different story, saying the incident started during a routine search, and escalated after a heated argument between the transgenders and officers.

District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Asad Muzaffar responded by suspending the two officers involved and forming a committee, led by SP Investigation, to investigate the incident.

The DPO explained that while the officers have been suspended during the investigation, the transgenders who caused damage and held hostages will also face consequences.
