Twitter initiates deletion of bot accounts

New York: Twitter has commenced the deletion of bot or automated accounts from its platform.

In a blog post on the microblogging website Twitter, it was revealed that the presence of bot accounts has led to a proliferation of fake accounts spreading misinformation on the platform prompting the initiation of their deletion.

According to the company, all bot or automated accounts that are not operated by humans will be deleted.

Furthermore, the company has also announced its determination to hold accountable those responsible for operating large numbers of bot accounts and bring them to justice.

Following the deletion of bot or automated accounts by Twitter, the number of followers for several users has begun to decrease.

Bot chats or automated accounts are those that do not require human intervention to operate. Such accounts are created using software or Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and then function similarly to human accounts.

Major companies also employ bot or automated chats and many applications provide the convenience of automated chats such as the option for auto-reply on platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or email.

It is estimated that Twitter has millions of bot or automated accounts also referred to as fake accounts and Elon Musk had announced the deletion of such accounts when he acquired Twitter.
