UNSC Palestinian statehood resolution not guaranteed to achieve two-state solution: US representative

Linda Thomas-Greenfield remarked that a UN Security Council resolution concerning Palestinian statehood may not automatically result in a two-state solution endorsed by the United States.

Responding to a query during a press briefing in Seoul, South Korea, she reiterated President Biden’s firm support for a two-state solution in the Middle East, emphasizing the need for Palestinians to have their own state while ensuring Israel’s security.

Thomas-Greenfield stated that efforts are underway to expedite the establishment of this solution on the ground.

Regarding the ongoing consideration of a resolution recommending full UN membership for the State of Palestine, she did not specify whether the US would exercise its veto power.
