US delegation meets Army Chief General Bajwa

A US delegation comprising congresspersons Sheila Jackson Lee, Thomas Suozzi and Alexander N Green met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

 According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed during the meeting.

 The US delegation expressed grief over the devastation caused by the ongoing floods in Pakistan and offered sincere condolences to the families of the flood victims. They offered US support to the people of Pakistan at this hour of need.

Meanwhile, the US officials appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for regional stability and pledged to play their role in enhancing cooperation with Pakistan at various levels.

The COAS expressed his gratitude for the US support and reiterated that assistance from Pakistan’s global partners was vital for the rescue and rehabilitation of flood victims.

The US delegation visited the flood affected regions of Pakistan on the previous day and was provided briefing over the relief and rescue operations.

The delegation also met with PM Shehbaz Sharif yesterday who had expressed appreciation for US’s support for flood relief operations.

Sheila Jackson had said that it was the first US delegation to visit the most deadly and devastating floods in the history of Pakistan.

US embassy has already announced $30 million in life saving humanitarian assistance for flood affectees in Pakistan through US Agency for International Development (USAID).
