US urges taliban to prevent terrorist use of Afghan soil

The US State Department has endorsed Pakistan’s anti-terrorism efforts and urged Taliban leaders to prevent terrorists from using Afghan territory.

A State Department spokesperson expressed support for Pakistan’s endeavors to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of its citizens while upholding the rule of law and human rights.

The spokesperson emphasized the significant toll that terrorism takes on Pakistan and underscored the principle that no nation should endure such suffering due to terrorism.

“We call on the Taliban to ensure that Afghanistan’s soil is not utilized to support terrorist organizations, facilitate terrorist movements, or perpetrate acts of terrorism,” the spokesperson stated.

Furthermore, the spokesperson reiterated the US’s stance of evaluating the Taliban based on their actions rather than their words, emphasizing that international legitimacy for the Taliban hinges on fulfilling their commitments to the global community.

The State Department official clarified that the primary concern of the US is to prevent Afghanistan from serving as a safe haven for terrorists intending to harm the US, its partners, and allies.

“We maintain regular communication with Pakistani leaders as part of our collaboration on counterterrorism efforts. Discussions on Afghanistan, including through our annual counterterrorism dialogue and other bilateral consultations, remain ongoing,” the official added.
