Use of plastic bags banned across Punjab

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has given approval for a ban on plastic bag usage in the province. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, where it was agreed to implement the ban starting from June 5.

Marriyum Aurangzeb announced plans to launch an “Earth Day” celebration on April 22, initiating a “No Plastic” campaign. The aim is to ensure a complete prohibition on the production, distribution, and usage of plastic bags.

Highlighting the health hazards associated with plastic usage, Aurangzeb emphasized the need for alternative options such as cloth and paper bags. She urged citizens, including shopkeepers, to support the government’s initiative by refraining from using plastic bags.

Additionally, it was decided that plastic items and utensils should be avoided at home, and relevant authorities would enforce the ban effectively.

To raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic on human health and the environment, special lectures and training workshops will be organized in schools and educational institutions. Aurangzeb emphasized the critical importance of environmental preservation for the well-being of everyone.
