Young climate activists organized rallies and protests throughout the globe to demand that wealthy nations pay for the harm that global warming does to the underprivileged.

On Friday, At least 2,000 people gathered in New York for the march. They marched from Foley Square to lower Manhattan while singing phrases like “the people united, shall never be defeated.”

The protest took place six weeks prior to this year’s UN climate summit, known as COP27.

During the summit, vulnerable nations will demand compensation for damage caused by climate change to their homes, infrastructure, and means of subsistence.

The irreparable harm brought on by climate change has increased the demand for “Loss & Damage” compensation from poor nations at COP27 in Egypt in November.

The leaders of these nations highlight that the globe is already experiencing climate-related calamities, such as the devastating floods that have engulfed significant portions of Pakistan, the wildfires that have ravaged Canada and Morocco, and the record-breaking heat waves that have hit Britain and India.

The COP27 summit in Sharm El Sheikh is not expected to have a historic agreement like the one reached the COP26 summit in Glasgow in November, which urged nations to take significantly more action to reduce carbon emissions that contribute to global warming.
