Zia Mohyuddin’s funeral prayers offered in Karachi

World-renowned director, actor, and host Zia Mohyuddin’s funeral prayers have been offered in Karachi.

Renowned director and TV host Zia Mohyuddin passed away this morning at the age of 91, now his funeral prayers were offered at Imambargah Yathrib in Defense Phase 4.

Zia was born on June 20, 1931, in Faisalabad. He started his career work from Radio Australia and worked for the British theater for a long time.

He also performed in British cinema and Hollywood, in the 50s, and received formal training in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Zia Mohyuddin was the first South Asian actor to grace Broadway, he started a unique program called Zia Mohyuddin Show from PTV in the 70s and was appointed director of PIA Arts Academy in 1973.

After general Zia-ul-Haq’s martial law, Zia Mohyuddin went back to Britain but decided to return to Pakistan permanently in the 90s; Zia also wrote columns in the English newspaper The News.
