36 cases against Fawad: IG informs court

The Inspector General (IG) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, along with representatives from the provincial government, presented the details of the cases filed against former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in court.

A two-member bench led by Justice Alia Neelam of the Lahore High Court (LHC) heard the petition seeking information on the cases against Fawad Chaudhry. The Punjab government’s lawyer, IG Punjab, and others were present during the proceedings.

The lawyer representing the Punjab government informed the court that 40 cases were filed against Fawad Chaudhry, out of which four have been dismissed, leaving 36 cases pending.

The IG Punjab further clarified to the court that indeed 36 cases were registered against Fawad Chaudhry. When asked if there were any additional cases involving him, the IG stated that apart from these, Fawad Chaudhry was not named in any other case.

IG Punjab Usman Anwar mentioned that Fawad Chaudhry did not apply for interim bail in these cases. Upon the court’s inquiry regarding providing him an opportunity to apply for interim bail, IG Punjab confirmed that they would indeed give him that chance.

The court granted Fawad Chaudhry one week’s time to file for bail.

During the hearing, Justice Alia Neelam remarked to IG Punjab that he seemed quite cheerful today. In response, IG Usman Anwar said, “I have been appearing in your court for 12 years, and today, I didn’t hear any sarcastic remarks from you.”
