54% of loose milk in Pakistan is considered ‘unfit’ for consumption

A nationwide survey about the quality of the available milk in the country has revealed that 54% of loose milk available in Pakistan is “unfit” for consumption after the results were revealed at a seminar in Lahore.

A recent survey conducted by the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Pakistan revealed some shocking news about the quality of loose milk in the country. Can you believe it?

According to the survey, a whopping 54% of the loose milk available in Pakistan is considered “unfit” for consumption. The study, carried out by Nielsen, collected 1,206 milk samples from 11 major cities and analyzed them for various quality and safety parameters. And guess what? A staggering 92% of the samples didn’t meet the required standards!
The research focused on five key aspects: composition, adulteration, antibiotic residues, aflatoxin M1, and heavy metals. It’s alarming to see that so many samples were non-compliant with these important parameters.

During a seminar in Lahore, the UVAS Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmed, emphasized the university’s commitment to addressing the issues facing the livestock, poultry, dairy, meat, and food industries. They’re playing a leading role in finding solutions to these challenges.

Another important point raised during the seminar was the need for consumer awareness and traceability to ensure food safety in our country. Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, highlighted the importance of being informed consumers.

We must be aware of the quality and safety of the food we consume, including milk. This survey sheds light on the current situation and calls for action to improve the standards and ensure that the milk we drink is safe and healthy.
