Jeep falls into ravine in Neelum Valley: Six including two children die

Improper infrastructure, unmaintained vehicles, sheer negligence of drivers and authorities costing precious lives

At least six people including two children have died after a jeep fell into a ravine in Neelum Valley, whereas two injured have been rescued.

The tragic incident took place in Kattan area on Jagran road in Neelum Valley of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Wednesday.

Police and rescue teams had reached the area immediately after the incident was reported. The locals of the area also participated in the rescue efforts.

According to media reports, eight people of the same family were travelling in the jeep when the tragic incident happened. The injured and bodies of the deceased had been shifted to the MDS Hospital Jhambar.

District Management Authority has been quoted as saying that a jeep was carrying eight persons who were travelling from Jagran to Kondal Shahi; however the vehicle had plunged into the deep ravine after the driver had lost control over the steering.

In-charge DDMA has said that the deceased were identified as Sohail Ahmad 34, Shair Dil 60, Umar Gull 50, Gull Hassan BB 23, Sultan Umar 2, and Sikandar Umar 2.5. Aziza Bibi and Siraj Din were injured.

Accidents have become frequent due to improper infrastructure, unmaintained vehicles, lack of compliance of traffic rules and sheer negligence of drivers and authorities due to which precious lives continue to be lost in accidents.
