India is likely to overtake China to become the most populous country in the world, a report by the World Population Review (WPR) has revealed.

World Population Review (WPR) is an organization that works on population and social statistics around the world.

According to the WPR report, India’s population reached 1.417 billion at the end of 2022.

In contrast, China’s Statistics Department said on January 17 that the country’s population is 1.412 billion and the population declined for the first time since 1961.

This report indicated that India’s population had become 5 million more than China’s.

“50% of India’s population is under the age of 30 and economic growth is expected to accelerate in the coming years,” the report said.

According to the WPR, the United Nations expected India to overtake China at some point this year to become the world’s most populous country but by the end of 2022, its population had exceeded then China.

As of January 18, India’s population reached 1.423 billion, while another research institute Macrotrends estimated that the Indian population had reached 1.428 billion.

According to the WPR, although the process of increasing the population rate in India had slowed down, the population will keep increasing until 2050.
