Afghans apologized over cross border firing near Chaman, Defence Minister tells NA

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the internal affairs of Afghanistan were having an impact on bilateral relations.

He said that in cross-border firing from Afghanistan into Chaman Pakistanis were martyred. He further said that Pakistan retaliated effectively and now Afghanistan has accepted its mistake and apologized.

Defence Minister while speaking in the National Assembly said that the reconstruction work of the fence near Chaman was going on when heavy weapons were used for attack from the Afghanistan area in which people were martyred.

Khawaja Asif also said that Pakistani forces had attacked Afghan posts in response but Pakistan undertaking a responsible response did not target the innocent civilian population.

Defense Minister said that Afghan senior officials were contacted on this issue, and they admitted their mistake and apologized for the incident.

He said that they could only hope that the internal differences in Afghanistan end as instability in Afghanistan has been affecting Pakistan.

Khawaja Asif further said that Pakistanis were well-wishers of the Afghan government and hopefully Afghans will resolve their problems united. He said that cooperation for peace in Afghanistan will continue because peace there will restore Pakistan’s connection with Central Asia.
