Karachi zoo to relocate Madhubala to Safari park

Madhubala, a 16-year-old elephant residing in solitary confinement at Karachi Zoo in Pakistan, is set to be relocated to Safari Park next month, announced the zoo administration on Thursday.

The move comes as arrangements have been finalized to transfer Madhubala to Safari Park, where she will join other elephants Sonia and Malika.

Training for Madhubala’s transportation has been completed, and a new sanctuary is being prepared in collaboration with Four Paws.

The sanctuary is expected to be ready in 15 to 20 days, with Madhubala scheduled to be moved to Safari Park in May.

This relocation will increase the number of elephants at Safari Park to three.

Madhubala, one of four African elephants treated by a team from Four Paws in 2022, had been suffering from a dental infection and pain due to a broken tusk.

This effort follows Four Paws’ previous relocation of Kaavan, known as the world’s loneliest elephant, from Islamabad to Cambodia in 2020.
