Another public holiday coming in Pakistan?

As May 1st, also known as Labour Day, approaches, Pakistanis are eager to know if it will be observed as a public holiday this year, especially as it falls on a Wednesday.

Traditionally, Labour Day has been recognized as a public holiday in Pakistan and many other parts of the world to honor the contributions of workers and their rights.

While every year Labor Day is listed as an off-day, the federal government has not yet made an official announcement for this year. People are advised to await an official confirmation.

According to the Cabinet Division circular for 2024, May 1st is designated as a public holiday. It is expected that all schools nationwide will be formally closed on this day.

In Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and other regions, both private and public offices are typically closed on Labour Day. The State Bank of Pakistan is anticipated to declare May 1st as a bank holiday as well.

Labour Day, celebrated globally on May 1st, serves as a reminder to acknowledge the contributions of workers and advocate for their rights.
