Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan to take on arch-rival India today

The top-ranked cricket team in the world, Pakistan, and its archrivals India, will square off on the pitch today for the first time in an ODI since the 2019 World Cup.

Pakistan is attempting to subdue its traditional neighbors with the aid of its elite bowling line after moving up to the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) world rankings.

The Indians are looking forward to seeing their talented batting lineup, which features skipper Rohit Sharma, ace batsman Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Hardik Pandya.

The pace of Pakistan under Babar Azam and the hitters of India under Rohit Sharma will square off, but the Saturday game might be decided by the weather. The game might be interrupted since rain is expected in Kandy throughout the weekend.

Pakistan, meanwhile, is seeking to build on its impressive victory over Nepal in their Asia Cup opening earlier this week in Multan.

Babar, who scored the game-winning 151 against Nepal, said, “We are not focusing on the past, but looking to do well in the upcoming matches.”

“We’ll do our best to put forth our best effort and carry the momentum (from the first win) onward. We are eager for it because India-Pakistan matches are always intense and eagerly anticipated by fans.”

The first of three possible matches between the fierce rivals in Sri Lanka will be played on Saturday in Pallekele when Rohit’s team takes on Pakistan in the tournament opener. Despite saying that his team was prepared for the challenge, the skipper commended the Pakistani quicks.
