Award of thousands of dollars on birth of new child

Seoul: South Korea is considering giving parents 100 million Korean Won (approximately 77,000 dollars or 20 million Pakistani Rupees) for the birth of a new child in order to increase the declining birth rate.

According to the international news website “Da Streets Times,” the South Korean Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission initiated a survey on April 17 to gather public opinion on this matter.

The commission stated in its announcement that through this survey, they will evaluate the policies to promote childbirth in the country to determine whether direct financial assistance can be an effective solution to this issue.

Four questions have been asked in the online survey including whether such financial aid will encourage childbirth and whether they believe spending 22 trillion won annually on this program is acceptable.

It is noteworthy that the allocated amount for low birth rate measures accounts for approximately half of South Korea’s national budget which amounts to 48 trillion won annually. These measures are being taken to address the population growth crisis in South Korea.
