Calls for suo moto action as JUI-F Leader calls judges ‘dishonorable’

JUI-F leader’s comments come in context of recent Supreme Court orders to demolish mosques built on illegal land

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Central Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri has announced that he would not honour the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s orders if he was summoned for contempt of court.

In a video shared on social media, Haideri could be seen saying that he would not appear before the judge, calling him “dishonorable”. He made these comments while addressing a press conference at Madina Mosque in Karachi, which had been ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to be demolished a few days ago.

The video has sparked anger on social media with many asking why certain people could insult the country’s courts and judges and remain scot-free.

A journalist asked a rhetorical question that should Haideri’s statement be considered a dare or stupidity.

A social worker contributed that people like Haideri exploited the religious sentiment of the people for their own personal gain.

Another journalist said that this ruckus was only created when courts did not pass judgment in one’s favour which gave people the opportunity to behave in such a manner.

A twitter user demanded that the chief justice of Pakistan take suo moto action on the matter.

Another user said that Haideri was not a scholar but a bully and [part of] an occupying mafia.

The events come days after JUI-F Sindh Secretary General Rashid Mahmood Soomro issued a challenge to the CJP to execute the apex court’s orders to demolish the illegally constructed mosques in Karachi. Soomro’s video shared on social media sparked anger with many demanding the JUI-F leader be tried in court under a contempt of court case.
