The man, identified as Hamza Ahmad Khan, is a doctoral researcher. He had been staying in DHA Phase 10. According to initial reports, he left his residence in the early hours of February 19 and did not return.

After he went missing, a friend approached the police. A kidnapping case was registered at the Defence-A police station. The development caused concern among his acquaintances and academic circles.

On Monday, officials confirmed that Hamza was not abducted but had been taken into custody by the NCCIA. He was produced before a magistrate. The court sent him to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the cybercrime agency, Hamza is accused of sharing content on social media platforms, including X and Instagram. Authorities allege that the posts contained misinformation and material targeting state institutions.

The case has been registered under sections 20, 24, and 26A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). These sections relate to offences against the dignity of a natural person, cyber stalking, and spoofing.

Officials stated that during routine cyber patrol and monitoring, certain accounts linked to the suspect were found to be actively posting content described as inflammatory. The agency claims the material was publicly accessible and allegedly aimed at inciting unrest and spreading animosity.

Investigators further alleged that the posts were intended to damage the reputation of state institutions and public office holders. The FIR states that such online activity could have serious national and international consequences.
