Commissioner Lahore orders improvement of security guards’ recruitment process

All the market committees of Lahore have been ordered to ensure the installation of security cameras in all shops and marketplaces in a bid to improve the security situation in the metropolitan city.

Lahore Commissioner Captain (Retd) Muhammad Usman passed these orders on Thursday during a meeting regarding law and order in Lahore. The important meeting was held under the commissioner’s chairmanship and was attended by officers of all agencies including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Mustansir Feroze.

Usman said that CCTV cameras were mandatory in shops, plazas, and business places while there must be a camera control room in every market so that all kinds of movements could be monitored.

The commissioner was informed that under the Security and Vulnerable Establishment Ordinance 2015, security camera systems were mandatory on every business’ premises.

“Security cameras system will have to be made compulsory at all roads and streets in the city,” he said and added that the recruitment process of private security guards could also be improved and tightened. For this, he added that a database would be launched very soon while all the security guards in the city would be registered with the government. He ordered the city district administration to set up a central digital system for security guards.

“Checking is required in accordance with the policy specified by the home department and there must not be any leniency in this regard,” commissioner ordered while stating that though several cameras were put in place by the Safe City Authority, installation of security cameras would help in better surveillance and monitoring the situation in the city.
