Cotton production surges by 71% during 2023-24 season

During the cotton year 2023-24, the production of cotton in the country has increased by 71% to 83 lakh 97 thousand bales.

According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association, during the year 2023-24, in the ginning factories across the country, although with an increase of 71%, a total of 83 lakh 97 thousand bales of cotton equivalent to cotton has been delivered, but this production is the set target. Compared to 38 lakh 73 thousand bales or 32% less.

According to the report, during the period under review, 42 lakh 82 thousand bales have been produced in Punjab and 41 lakh 15 thousand bales in Sindh. Interestingly, in all the cotton belts of Pakistan, a record production of 16 lakh 95 thousand bales has been recorded in Sanghar district of Sindh, which is the highest production recorded in all the cotton zones of Pakistan, while Punjab has the lowest production with 5 thousand 240 bales. According to the report, during this year, textile mills purchased 80 lakh 43 thousand bales from ginning factories while 2 lakh 93 thousand bales of cotton were purchased from export sectors.

Chairman Cotton Ginners Forum M. Ehsanul Haque said that the special thing about these data is that the production of cotton in Sindh is surprisingly 114,000 bales more than the target, while in Punjab there is an extraordinary decrease in this production, which is mainly due to adverse weather conditions.
