Dutch Coach Roland Oltmans to select Azlan Shah Hockey Cup team

In a significant development for Pakistan hockey, Dutch coach Roland Oltmans has been granted the authority to select the team for the Azlan Shah Hockey Cup. This decision, announced by Rana Mashhood, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, comes amid discussions about the future of Pakistan hockey.

An important meeting convened at the Prime Minister’s Office, chaired by Chairman Prime Minister Youth Program Rana Mashhood, addressed the issue of two federations and the future trajectory of Pakistan hockey. Olympian Khawaja Junaid, Director Sports Higher Education Javed Memon, and PSB representative Shahid Aslam were among the panel members. Presidents of both factions of the federation, Tariq Hussain Bugti and Shehla Raza, presented their positions during the meeting.

After thorough deliberations, it was decided that head coach Roland Oltmans will select the team based on merit, with support from the DG of Pakistan Sports Board and representatives of the Pakistan Olympic Association. This move aims to ensure transparency and fairness in team selection.

Rana Mashhood expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan hockey, promising to deliver positive news within two days. He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation to rejuvenate the sport and regain its former glory.

Players from the Karachi camp have been instructed to report to Islamabad for Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Cup trials, scheduled for April 27. The selected team will depart for Malaysia on May 2 to participate in the prestigious event.

Rana Mashhood affirmed that the group recognized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) will receive government support, signaling a commitment to bolstering the sport at the national level.

The Youth Program Chairman extended special thanks to Khawaja Junaid, Shahid Islam, and Javed Memon for their unwavering support and invaluable contributions to the cause of Pakistan hockey.
