ECP halts local government’s FRB reforms and PIA’s privatization

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has stopped the local government from making changes to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms and the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The ECP sent letters to the secretary of the local Prime Minister and the Cabinet Division.

The letters say that the local government should not alter the FBR reforms, and this task should be left for the elected government that comes into power after the elections.

The ECP’s letters stress that reforms in the FBR are an important policy decision that falls under the jurisdiction of the elected government.

In the letter to the Secretary of the Cabinet Division, the Secretary of the Election Commission mentioned that all documents related to PIA’s privatization should be provided to the Election Commission for review.

The Election Commission stated that the local government should avoid signing any agreements related to the privatization of PIA until decisions are made on this matter.
