The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that the electoral roll finalized on March 27, 2024, will be considered definitive for the upcoming Senate elections. Crucially, the ECP confirmed there will be no new nomination papers issued for these elections.
The ECP has released the comprehensive list of candidates for the various categories in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. For the 7 General seats, a total of 16 candidates have been cleared to contest. Among these general seat candidates, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has one candidate, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUP) has one, and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also has one candidate.
For the women’s seats, a list of four candidates has been released, while for the technocrat seats, six candidates are in the running. The ECP specified that for the technocrat seat, JUP will field one candidate. Similarly, for the women’s seats, the PPP will have one candidate vying for success.
This announcement follows the ECP’s earlier declaration on July 4, which issued the detailed election schedule for the 7 General, 2 Women, and 2 Technocrat seats in the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As per the schedule, polling is set to take place on July 21 within the premises of the Provincial Assembly.
