Excessive mobile phone use increases psychological impact on children

Mobile phones are causing more psychological problems and irritability in children, especially among those aged three to five and students preparing for board or O/A level exams.

Professor Dr. Tipu Sultan, from Children’s Hospital in Lahore, warns about the growing psychological issues and crankiness in children due to increased mobile phone use.

Dr. Sultan explains why this is happening. He says less physical activity, starting school too early, and spending too much time on mobile phones are making children behave differently.

Parents often give phones to their troubled children instead of finding other solutions, which Dr. Sultan says isn’t helpful. He notes that kids aged three to five are most affected.

Eating out instead of having home-cooked meals is also harming children’s health. Dr. Sultan adds that screen time makes kids more anxious and prone to psychological problems.

To fix this, Dr. Sultan advises parents to encourage children to spend time with older family members and do more physical activities. He says there should be less pressure on kids for academics and more parks and playgrounds in schools and neighborhoods.

He urges parents to focus on their children’s well-being by promoting healthier habits, limiting screen time, and giving them chances to be active and social.

Dr. Sultan believes that by addressing these issues, we can reduce psychological problems in children and give them happier, healthier childhoods.
