Fake vaccination of Nawaz Sharif: Suspects plead innocence, blame faulty system

According to records, Nawaz Sharif received a COVID-19 jab on September 22 in Lahore

An anti-corruption court on Thursday sought arguments from both sides on the bail petition filed by two suspects involved in fake vaccination of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader and former three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, with the suspects pleading innocence and blaming a ‘faulty’ system.

Judge Mohammad Arshad heard the bail petition of both suspects, namely, Abul Hassan and Adil.

During the proceedings, the counsel for the petitioners argued that they were not involved in fake vaccination entries of former PM Nawaz Sharif.

The counsel stated that Abul Hassan and Adil had nothing to do with the bogus data entries concerning vaccination of Nawaz Sharif.

The petitioners stated before the court that they were being victimized and the bogus entries were the fault of the system. They prayed the court that they should be granted bail in the case.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor stated that there were sufficient arguments to support the involvement of the suspects in the case. He said that they uploaded the fake data of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on the system, and further asked the court to reject the bail petition of the suspects.

After hearing both sides, the judge sought further arguments and put off the hearing till October 29.

On September 23, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) lodged a case against two employees of Lahore’s Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital for making a ‘fake entry’ using former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s name for COVID-19 vaccination.

The FIA nominated guard Abul Hassan and ward attendant Adil Rafique in the FIR, stating that they used the name/login of vaccinator Naveed Altaf to make a bogus entry of the former premier using his national identity card on September 22. The agency registered the case after an inquiry into the incident on the recommendations of the Punjab government.

Gujjarpura police also registered a case against the two suspects on the complaint of the hospital medical superintendent and arrested them.

Nawaz Sharif has been in London since November 2019 for his medical treatment. As per the vaccination entry, Nawaz Sharif received his first jab of coronavirus vaccine Sinovac at 4:04 pm on September 22 at the Government Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital, with the second dose in his name registered for October 20.
