FBR takes stringent measures against non-filers, issues notices to 700,000 individuals

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated an extensive campaign against individuals who have not filed their tax returns, issuing notices to more than 700,000 non-filers.

This action, aligned with guidance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), aims to encourage adherence to tax regulations.

According to sources within the FBR, these notices were dispatched after thorough reviews of banking records and electricity bills. Individuals who are yet to fulfill their tax return obligations are urged to do so promptly.

In a stringent measure, non-compliant individuals could face the possibility of their mobile phone SIMs being blocked following the issuance of notices. The subsequent phase of the FBR’s strategy includes the disconnection of electricity connections for those who default on their taxes.

The primary objective of the FBR is to broaden the tax net by adding over 1 million new taxpayers in the current fiscal year. This initiative underscores the FBR’s dedication to establishing a more expansive and comprehensive landscape of tax compliance.
