Eleven government departments of Faisalabad appeared to be defaulters of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), worth Rs535.7 million.
Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Faisalabad secured the top position with Rs473.16m. FESCO officials have launched a recovery campaign against government departments under which final notices have been issued to all respective departments.
For the last several months, the monthly utility bills of FESCO have not been submitted by some government departments. Among the non-paying departments, the highest amount owed by WASA is Rs473.16m, as WASA has not submitted electricity bills for the last 14 months. Their various connections were disconnected but after a small amount of money was deposited by WASA officials, their connections were restored.
FESCO’s second major defaulter is the Faisalabad Agricultural University, which owes Rs24.24m. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited is in the third position with a debt of Rs10.24m. Among the remaining defaulters are Pakistan Railways with Rs1.42m and Punjab Police with Rs5.93m. District Health Department owes Rs4.75m.
According to the report released by FESCO, Revenue Department, City District Government owe Rs1.05m, Tehsil Municipal Administration Lyallpur Town owes Rs 4.68m, Tehsil Municipal Administration Madina Town stands at Rs2.09m debt, while Tehsil Municipal Administration Iqbal Town has been in a debt of Rs4.08m. Meanwhile, the National Highway Authority is a defaulter of Rs4.06m.
In this regard, FESCO Chief Executive Officer Bashir Ahmed said that they had started recovering funds from all the non-paying government departments under which final notices have been issued. CEOs and heads of all departments have been given a week to submit their electricity bills. It has also been clarified that if these institutions’ payments are not made within a week, FESCO will cut off their connections.
