The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has offloaded two underage girls and their mother at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi after uncovering suspected irregularities in the girls’ travel documents.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the two girls were travelling to the United Arab Emirates with their mother when officials stopped them during an inspection at the airport.
During questioning, the girls reportedly disclosed that their parents had deliberately recorded their ages as higher than their actual ages to obtain travel documents.
The spokesperson said an agent based in the UAE had allegedly sent money to the girls’ mother to facilitate the preparation of the documents. The payment was reportedly linked to the process of obtaining the girls’ travel documentation.
The FIA also found conversations between the mother and the agent, along with records of financial transactions, on her mobile phone. These records are being treated as evidence in the investigation into the suspected document fraud.
Following the discovery, the FIA stopped all three passengers from travelling and handed them over to the relevant law enforcement authorities for further legal proceedings.
The agency has not disclosed the identities of the girls, their mother or the alleged agent.
The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the preparation of the travel documents, the alleged alteration of the girls’ ages and the role of the agent based in the UAE.
The incident highlights the importance of verifying travel documents and preventing the use of allegedly falsified information in international travel.
