Free Wi-Fi initiative launched at 50 locations in Lahore

The Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated a pilot project to provide free Wi-Fi services at 50 locations across Lahore.

The initiative approved to promote connectivity marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and empowering citizens with access to the internet.

Talking to social media platform X formerly Twitter, CM Maryam Nawaz expressed her delight in launching the free Wi-Fi service reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises.

The project approved in a high-level meeting with officials from the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) underscores the importance of leveraging technology to drive socio-economic development.

Under the initiative, the PITB has been tasked with revamping existing infrastructure and establishing hotspots to ensure seamless internet connectivity.

With plans to expand the free Wi-Fi service to a total of 516 locations across Lahore, the project aims to provide internet access at key public spaces including educational institutions, hospitals, bus stops and railway stations.

This initiative builds upon previous efforts to introduce free Wi-Fi services in Lahore and other cities reaffirming the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of the citizens.

The provision of free Wi-Fi services is expected to facilitate access to information, promote digital literacy and spur economic growth by enabling greater participation in the digital economy.

By democratizing access to the internet, the initiative is poised to empower individuals, businesses and communities ultimately contributing to the socio-economic development of Lahore and beyond.
