Gaza talks to be held in Riyadh this week with Abbas and global leaders

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, along with several international officials, is set to be in Riyadh this week to discuss peace efforts for Gaza. The talks will take place on the sidelines of a World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting, according to WEF’s president, Børge Brende.

“We have key players in Riyadh, and we hope these discussions will pave the way for reconciliation and peace,” Brende said at a press conference in Riyadh. He added that Gaza’s humanitarian crisis would be one of the key topics of discussion.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will be attending the talks alongside regional leaders like Qatar’s prime minister, Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Oman’s crown prince, and officials from Bahrain, according to Brende.

Brende mentioned that Egypt’s foreign minister would also be present to update everyone on recent discussions Egyptian negotiators had in Israel on Friday, aiming to restart stalled peace talks and secure the return of Israeli hostages from Gaza.

“There is now a bit of momentum for negotiations concerning the hostages, as well as the possibility of a ceasefire,” Brende explained.
