I wish Babar Azam was in team during my time: Saeed Ajmal

Saeed Ajmal has spoken about his appreciation for Babar Azam and claimed that throughout his playing days, he always desired for a batter like him in the national squad.

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Ajmal claimed that having a player like Babar on the team would have made a big impact.

Ajmal also discussed his recent remark that Pakistan needs more “selfish” batters like Babar Azam, in which he said that he is a good example.

“Since I’ve been playing cricket, I’ve always longed for a side to have a patient run-scorer like Babar Azam so that bowlers could get a tiny advantage or at least have something to defend in addition to being able to bowl aggressively.”

“Our bowlers, though, were not very strong at the time. Recently, the bowling has been poor, even when the batting is excellent. Because of this, when I indicated before that we needed two or three more players like Babar Azam, I didn’t mean to criticize anyone; rather, I just meant to convey that doing so would make the squad stronger,” Ajmal added.

Ajmal thinks that Babar’s weaknesses as a captain can be fixed while acknowledging that the captain may have certain problems.

“I agree that he may have some captaincy issues, but those may be resolved by instructing him and wisely coaching him. There is no reason to unfairly criticize his batting since it is perfect,” he said.
