ICT administration fails to enforce reduced roti prices as per notification

Despite issuing a notification to provide roti at Rs16, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) district administration has struggled to implement its own directive.

The administration had instructed the Nanbai association to sell roti at reduced rates, but has thus far been unsuccessful in ensuring compliance.

Instead of adhering to the mandated lower prices, the Nanbai association continues to sell roti at its original, higher rates.

In Islamabad, roti is currently being sold at Rs25 and naan at Rs30, as the Nanbai association has refused to reduce the prices.

Initially, the price of roti was supposed to be reduced to Rs16, with naan priced at Rs20. However, negotiations over roti prices have reached an impasse in both Lahore and Islamabad.

Punjab’s Food Minister and government spokesperson, Azma Zahid Bukhari, asserted on Wednesday that the district administration had implemented 80% of the orders across Punjab, emphasizing that there would be no leniency regarding the reduced bread prices.

Additionally, on Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif personally visited several tandoors in Murree to assess the roti prices. Both the PML-N-led Punjab government and the unity government in Islamabad have pledged to apprehend those flouting the regulations.
