IHC delays verdict on Sheikh Rashid’s plea

The Islamabad High Court has postponed its decision on former federal minister Sheikh Rashid’s plea regarding the dismissal of a case against him.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri presided over the hearing where Sheikh Rashid, accompanied by his lawyers, appeared before the court. The court inquired about the police report, which was submitted, and questioned the inclusion of inappropriate words in the FIR.

It was noted that although the FIR mentioned allegations against Pakistan Peoples Party’s chairman Bilawal Bhutto, the specific inappropriate words were not listed. The court also questioned why the case was registered in Karachi when the incident occurred in Islamabad. The investigative officer mentioned a USB containing evidence, while the plaintiff’s lawyer referred to a widely-viewed YouTube video as additional evidence. The court asked for proof of Sheikh Rashid’s alleged unethical words in the video.

The applicant’s lawyer argued that Sheikh Rashid was in police custody at the time of the incident and any statements made were not within the boundaries of the case. The court reserved its decision and allowed both parties to submit any further comments within a week.
