LESCO has ‘barred’ its revenue officers from appearing before the FIA in overbilling probe

According to informed sources, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has instructed its revenue officers not to cooperate with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in an investigation regarding overbilling. This directive comes amidst tensions between LESCO and FIA, as LESCO’s revenue officers failed to comply with a summons issued by the agency on April 9.

Sources reveal that the FIA had called upon LESCO’s revenue officers to provide a two-year record, detailing deduction units and units charged for meter changes. However, LESCO officials have decided not to heed the FIA’s summons, as confirmed by sources within LESCO management. They have urged the FIA to reconsider their approach, highlighting that LESCO officers are professionals associated with a reputable institution.

This development follows the FIA’s recent initiation of a probe into overbilling allegations against LESCO in Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib regions, prompted by complaints from consumers.

In a related move, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had taken action against overbilling within LESCO’s jurisdiction back in February. NEPRA has pledged to hold accountable executive engineers (XENs) identified in its report, and officers implicated in overbilling will face removal from their positions.
