LHC disposes of appeal of Imran Khan’s security in jail

The Lahore High Court (LHC) resolved a petition for providing full security to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan by accepting its withdrawal on Tuesday.

During the hearing presided over by Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan, the petition filed by PTI Lawyers Forum President Afzaal Azeem was discussed.

Addressing the lawyer, the Chief Justice acknowledged the importance of concerns regarding the security of PTI’s founder, affirming that they are not disregarded and expressed hopes for the betterment of the country.

Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan commended Advocate General Punjab Khalid Ishaq for extending proper support to the court, appreciating his efforts.

In earlier proceedings concerning the petition filed in Lahore for ensuring full security for PTI’s founder in jail, Advocate General Punjab Khalid Ishaq updated the court about the security arrangements.

During today’s session, the petitioner’s lawyer stated that a similar petition had been filed by Bushra Bibi in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), hence they opted to temporarily withdraw this petition.

Consequently, the court disposed of Imran Khan’s security plea based on the withdrawal.

Previously, on March 28, Afzaal Azeem, president of the Lawyers Forum, had submitted a request for ensuring comprehensive security for former Prime Minister Imran Khan while in jail.

On March 29, during the hearing of the application, the LHC directed to assess Imran Khan’s level of security concerns.

Furthermore, on March 7, Rawalpindi Police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) apprehended three suspected terrorists, thwarting a potential major incident at Adiala Jail.

According to Rawalpindi’s City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani, the joint operation successfully averted a significant threat to Adiala Jail, resulting in the arrest of three terrorists from Afghanistan with heavy weaponry.

The security measures around Adiala Jail were escalated on March 16, with the installation of barbed wire, additional personnel deployment, and stringent access controls, all in response to heightened security concerns.
