Man kills daughter after cleric’s advice

The cold-blooded murder has led to panic among locals, who have been asking to arrest and punish the culprits.

A father, along with his two sons, on Friday reportedly killed his daughter in the Rahi Negwar area of Balochistan’s district Panjgur over money theft allegations.

According to local sources, after the father observed Rs50 had been missing from his home overnight, he contacted a religious cleric. The cleric, after a certain clerical ritual, named his daughter behind the stealing of the money. The father, without probing into the matter, tortured his daughter to death with the help of two of his sons.

The cold-blooded murder has led to panic among locals, who have been asking to arrest and punish the culprits.

Social and women’s rights activists in Balochistan decried the killing based on an allegation, saying that it was neither legal nor religious to kill a person without any proof.

The Baloch Women Forum (Sammo Raaj) condemned the brutal act in strong terms and said it was a disheartening episode. The BWF appealed to the district administration to immediately take action against the culprits.

The civil society in Turbat, meanwhile, called the bloodcurdling incident an extreme level of brutality. The statement further read that allegations based on illegal means were neither allowed by Islam nor any other legal institution of the country. The civil society urged religious scholars to look into the matter closely.

On the other hand, a police source said they had arrested the father and were probing into the matter.
