The Judicial Magistrate in Quetta has issued an arrest warrant for Mehmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of the Pashtun Khwa Milli Awami Party.
The court has instructed the police to present Achakzai in court on April 27. This development stems from an FIR filed against Achakzai by the Gwalmandi police station.
The issuance of the arrest warrant comes in the wake of a raid conducted by the Quetta administration at Achakzai’s residence shortly after he became a presidential candidate. The administration claimed to have taken action to reclaim government-owned land allegedly occupied illegally by Achakzai. The Pashtun Khwa Milli Awami Party vehemently condemned the raid, denouncing it as a response by state institutions to Achakzai’s recent speech in the National Assembly.
However, Deputy Commissioner Saad Asad stated that the raid was carried out to recover a portion of land near Achakzai’s residence, which was reportedly illegally encroached upon. Revenue officials and law enforcement agencies collaborated to reclaim the land, which had been surrounded by walls and occupied without authorization.
In response to the incident, a committee was formed to identify illegal encroachments on government-owned land in Balochistan. The local administration, in coordination with the police and revenue department, conducted raids on several public and private properties, including Achakzai’s residence.
Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto, condemned the raid during a session of the assembly, emphasizing the need for fair and non-controversial presidential elections. Bhutto urged authorities to investigate the alleged raid and take appropriate action.
