Murree disaster: Roads cleared up as dust settles

More than 300 stranded people provided with medical care by army doctors and paramedics

More than 300 stranded people including children have been provided medical care by a team of army doctors and paramedics, the Inter-Services Public Relations has stated.

According to the ISPR, more than 1000 stranded people have been served with cooked meals in Jhika Gali, Kashmiri Bazar, Lower Topa and Kuldana.

Moreover, stranded people have been accommodated and provided shelter with hot meals at Military College Murree, Supply Depot APS and Army Logistics School Kuldana.

Meanwhile, the route from Jhika Gali to Expressway is open for traffic, while Jhika Gali to Kuldana is cleared, however, there is no traffic due to slippery conditions on the road.

Moreover, Gharial to Bhurban is open for traffic and people are on the move on that route.

Furthermore, road clearance machinery is working to clear the route from Kuldana to Barian.

At least 22 people, stranded in a snowstorm in a Murree, died while waiting in their cars on the night between Friday and Saturday.

Authorities had declared the area calamity-hit on Saturday, while troops of the Pakistan Army had been deployed to provide rescue services. Army engineers and Frontier Works Organization worked to open the roads in Murree.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that he was shocked and upset at the tragic deaths of the tourists on the road going towards Murree. In a tweet, the premier said that unprecedented snowfall and a large number of tourists visiting Murree had caught the local administration off guard.
