Nagelsmann to lead German national team through 2026

The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday that Julian Nagelsmann, the coach of the German national team, has agreed to extend his contract, ensuring his leadership until at least the 2026 World Cup.

Nagelsmann expressed his sincere dedication, stating, “It is a tremendous honor to lead the national team.”

This extension precedes the 2024 European Championships, which Germany is slated to host in June and July.

Nagelsmann, buoyed by recent victories against France and the Netherlands, is aiming for success in the upcoming home Euros, fueled by the fans’ enthusiasm.

DFB’s national team director, Rudi Voeller, stressed the confidence in retaining Nagelsmann beyond the current tournament.

Bernd Neuendorf, DFB president, praised Nagelsmann’s decision as a “strong signal” by extending his tenure to the 2026 World Cup.

Speculations about Nagelsmann returning to club football, particularly with Bayern Munich, have been quashed.

Despite Bayern’s struggles after Nagelsmann’s departure, the coach remains steadfast in leading Germany.

Germany’s journey to Euro 2024 follows their disappointing exit from the 2022 World Cup, prompting the departure of former coach Hansi Flick.

Under Nagelsmann’s guidance, Germany’s performance has improved, fostering optimism as they approach the championships.
