Naqvi acknowledges public demand for inquiry against him

On Monday, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi addressed concerns regarding calls for an inquiry against him during a news conference held at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore office.

Naqvi assured the public that efforts were underway to prevent over-billing in the Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) throughout the month of April. He highlighted that other distribution companies (discos) have also taken steps to curtail overbilling, although the handling of such matters falls within their internal jurisdiction.

Highlighting the proactive role of FIA, particularly in the Lahore Region, Naqvi commended their efforts in addressing over-billing issues. He noted that approximately 310 million units of relief were provided to consumers, a measure supported wholeheartedly by the Power Division and the Prime Minister.

Turning to the topic of wheat importation, Naqvi clarified that the decision to import wheat rests solely with the federal government. He stated that the Punjab government’s role is limited to purchasing wheat from local farmers and does not extend to international procurement.

Addressing speculations, the Interior Minister asserted that the Punjab government bears no responsibility for the wheat procurement issue. He expressed his personal belief that any discrepancies were not deliberate acts of malice.
