NDMA issues weather advisory for Pakistan as heavy rain and wind expected

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory for Pakistan, forecasting a series of intermittent heavy rain, wind, and hailstorms from April 17 to April 29.

According to the advisory, the first spell of adverse weather conditions is expected to affect various regions of Pakistan. Balochistan is likely to experience heavy rain, wind, and hail from April 17 to 19, followed by Sindh from April 18 to 19. Similarly, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan will be impacted from April 18 to 22.

Additionally, the NDMA warns of potential weather-related hazards during April 25 to 29, with the possibility of heavy rain, hail, and strong winds across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. The agency highlights the risk of flooding in several local rivers in Balochistan, urging residents of vulnerable areas to remain cautious.

In light of the forecasted weather conditions, NDMA has directed Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and other administrative bodies to remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any emergency situations.

Furthermore, the advisory advises farmers to plan their crop harvesting routines, particularly for wheat, considering the prevailing weather conditions. Tourists and travelers are also urged to exercise caution, especially in mountainous regions, and to stay informed about weather updates and route conditions.

The NDMA emphasizes safety measures such as avoiding crossing rain-fed streams, being cautious near power poles and vulnerable structures, and urging residents of low-lying areas to stay vigilant due to the risk of flooding.
